An off-duty Houston police officer was injured in a road rage shooting as he was driving to work on Saturday night.

According to a preliminary police report, a young male driver "making a bad decision" got out of his vehicle at an intersection and fired into the officer's vehicle, striking his shoulder.

Jake Parker, a three-year veteran of the department, returned fire and drove himself to a nearby police station, where he was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Police tracked the shooter's vehicle using license plate readers and an air unit. A man and two women were arrested without further incident, and police recovered a gun linked to the shooting.

Mayor John Whitmire visited Parker at the hospital, where many of his colleagues had gathered in a show of support. Whitmire condemned generalized criticism of law enforcement, suggesting such rhetoric could encourage "bad actors."

The family of a woman forced to fill out paperwork while in active labor at a Mesquite hospital has hired a well-known civil rights law firm to represent them in a lawsuit.

A video of the encounter at Dallas Regional Medical Center has garnered millions of views on social media and prompted responses from local lawmakers, who have discussed the "deeply concerning" incident with hospital staff.

The woman reportedly waited more than 30 minutes at the hospital before she was taken to labor and delivery, where her son was born minutes later. The video shows her screaming through contractions as a nurse asks about her medical history.

"It was paperwork over life," said the woman's mother, who reported that the nurse told her, "The quicker you sign, the quicker we can get her in the back." The hospital is investigating the incident, and the nurse in the video has been placed on leave.

A 19,359-square-foot Fort Worth mansion with castle-like turrets and stone interiors is hitting the auction block next month after being listed for $11.75 million.

The home was built in 2006 for XTO founder and Texas Rangers co-owner Bob Simpson and his wife, who sold the property in 2021. It features seven bedrooms, 13 full and five half bathrooms, gourmet kitchens, a climate-controlled wine cellar, and living spaces with vaulted ceilings and ornate finishes.

The 2.12-acre property offers indoor and outdoor pools, a private pond, and a tennis court. Bids for the Dec. 3 auction are expected to start between $4 million and $6.5 million, according to Concierge Auctions.

The mansion is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the prestigious Montserrat neighborhood, which includes several other castle-like estates and was once home to pop star Selena Gomez.
