| | Saturday, February 28, 2026 | | | Good Morning! On this day in 1859, surveyor Anson Mills used the name El Paso for the community he platted in the western tip of Texas. He surveyed forts Quitman, Davis, Stockton, and Bliss, and he built the city's 12-story Mills Building, the nation's second concrete-frame skyscraper. Trump touted the strength of the state economy and its growth in the energy market in his address in Corpus Christi, saying he was looking to Texas to spearhead growth in the nation’s oil production. During his address, Trump did not endorse a candidate in Texas’ highly-publicized GOP primary for U.S. Senate, though all three candidates showed up at the event: Incumbent John Cornyn, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Rep. Wesley Hunt. Trump said earlier this month on Air Force One that, “You’re supposed to pick one, so we’ll see what happens. But I support all three.” | Education Board to Fix Bible-Based Curriculum Texas' State Board of Education approved an update to its optional Bible-infused public school curriculum, known as "Bluebonnet Learning," after over 4,000 errors were reported. A Texas Education Agency spokesman suggested that the reported number of errors was exaggerated due to the reporting system counting the same issues multiple times, and that the actual number of issues was less than 2,000. The Board also said that most of the errors were grammatical instead of factual, but one member warned that "even if it is a typo, it can become an error of fact." Around 300 Texas school districts said they planned to use the Bluebonnet curriculum when it was introduced last year. | Border Protection Drone Shot Down over Texas A Customs and Border Protection drone was shot down near El Paso this week in a case of friendly fire, as the Department of War deployed a counter-unmanned aircraft system when personnel couldn't identify the nature of the drone. The incident resulted in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expanding its temporary flight restrictions around Fort Hancock, but the FAA has noted that the restrictions don't apply to commercial aircraft. Congressional Democrats on the House Aviation Committee criticized the incident, saying they asked the White House to "address the lack of coordination" between Homeland Security, the FAA, and the Pentagon months ago. The drone was shot down in a remote area, and no one was injured, according to the Department of War. | | | Flying together with our sponsor Invest in America's Trillion-Dollar Energy Comeback Under a White House that favors energy production on our home soil, Frontieras North America could unlock up to $2.1 Trillion in energy potential.
