Judge Blocks Islamic Development Efforts

A Collin County judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking a municipal utility district tied to the planned Islamic development, The Meadow, and halting operations ahead of a scheduled board meeting. 

State officials allege board members acted improperly to expand the district and bypass regulatory oversight for the project, which includes housing, a mosque, and a faith-based school. The developer disputes the claims and says the process followed standard procedures.

The restraining order prevents the district from taking most actions while the case proceeds, with a court hearing scheduled later this month to determine whether a longer injunction will be issued.

Disney’s WWII Legacy on Display in Dallas

A new exhibition at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum explores how Walt Disney and his studio supported the U.S. war effort after Pearl Harbor, when the military occupied Disney’s Burbank lot.

Disney Studios devoted roughly 90% of its output to wartime production, creating training films, propaganda pieces, and over 1,200 military insignias using iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

The exhibition also highlights workforce shifts during the war, including women stepping into animation roles and the experiences of Japanese American employees, offering a broader look at how the studio adapted while contributing to the Allied effort.

The exhibit runs through September and features more than 500 artifacts, films, and original artwork.

Intact Alamo Cannonball Unearthed

Archaeologists at the Alamo uncovered a fully intact bronze cannonball dating to the 1836 battle, announcing the rare find just after the site’s 190th anniversary.

Researchers believe the four-pound projectile, discovered three feet underground, was likely fired by the Mexican Army, which primarily used bronze munitions. Experts are analyzing the cannonball to better understand its trajectory and role in the battle.

The National Historic Landmark is undergoing a $550 million preservation project, and the discovery adds to a growing collection of combat relics from the historic conflict.
